Imphal:
Officials said tension erupted between the two tribes in Manipur, as the head of a village was allegedly attacked by suspected militants on a land dispute.
The incident occurred at 12.15 pm when dozens of armed terrorists came to Konskhul village in Kangpokpi district and attacked several residents, including the village chief Amson Abonamai, he said.
Residents of Naga-cruel Konskhul said that the terrorists, allegedly belonging to the Cookie community, were from the neighboring Herothel village.
Officials said that Mr. Abonmai was taken to the Regional Medical Science (RIMS) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, while eight other injured villagers were treated at the Khurkul Primary Health Center. Hospital officials said they were out of danger.
Rongmi Naga Parishad strongly condemned the attack.
“We appeal to cookie leaders not to allow such incidents in future. Such incidents have the ability to create disturbance in the hills at one time when the states are already witness to ethnic conflict between Cookie and Meteyi communities. We strongly condemn the attack on Naga Village Head by Kuki Misscontors.”
Police said more security forces have been sent to Hill village to control the situation.
