The prestigious Taj Mahal in Agra earned “highest income” through the sale of tickets between ASI-protected monuments from FY19-20 to FY23-24, according to data shared by the government.
Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat shared the data in a written response for a query in Rajya Sabha.
He was asked the amount that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has received the year-wise and memorial-wise by selling admission tickets to various monuments in the last five years; And those monuments who have received the highest income through selling entry tickets in the last five years.
In his response, the minister shared the data in a tabular form for the cycles of the financial years, which ran from FY 19-20 to FY23-24.
According to data, the Taj Mahal earned the top slot for all five years.
The Mughal-program’s architectural surprise was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jehan in the 17th century and is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
In FY 19-20, Agra Fort in Agra and Qutub Minar in Delhi were second and third.
In FY20-21, a group of Mamlapuram of monuments in Tamil Nadu and Sun Temple, Konark stood second and third. In FY 23-24, Delhi’s Qutub Minar and Red Fort were in second and third place.
