Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, to keep 10 bills by the Supreme Court for more than three years, now landed in a fresh row, later after asking students at a ceremony to chant “Jai Shri Ram”. His action has been condemned by the ruling government and leaders of educational bodies. An academic body has also demanded the removal from the post.
In a statement, non-profit SPCSS-TN (State Forum-Tamil Nadu for Common School System) said: “Mr. RN Ravi violated his oath of office. He failed to follow the constitution and respect his ideals and institutions. Mr. RN Ravi should be removed from the office of Governor of India’s Governor.
Senior Congress leader Sasikant Senthil made fun of the governor in a post on X.
“After being slammed by the Supreme Court and after being blocked by the state government, he is now resorting to stunts like making students ‘Jai Shri Ram’,” to harass the system, “Read a rough translation of their posts.
“Clearly disappointed, he is sending a message that” even if the courts rule against me, I will find other ways to advance my agenda. “It is a dangerous mixture of ego and disregard that weakens democratic institutions and the principles of the Constitution!”
NDTV tried to reach Raj Bhavan for response, but no one has come yet.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court decided to give consent to 10 major bills of Governor RN Ravi for “illegal” and “arbitrary”. The court said that the governor did not work in “good faith”.
In a historic judgment, the apex court separated the Governor’s decisions and said the bills would be “approved” from the date presented to the governor for the second time.
