‘Tavavur Rana can reveal more names’: East-Attachistic Agency Officer

New Delhi:

A former top official of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) organized the successful extradition of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in India to organize the successful extradition of Tavavur Hussain Rana, the mastermind for “extremely important” India, as his inquiry can help fill the spaces left behind by the earlier investigation.

Former Inspector General of NIA Lokeanath Behera described NDTV as a case against Rana that is being handled by the anti-terrorism agency, belonging to a large conspiracy and pending before a special NIA court in Delhi. The NIA filed a charge sheet against Rana in 2011.

In another case, Mumbai Police filed a charge sheet against Rana in 2023 to plot a 26/11 terror attacks against Rana, he said.

“There are differences [between the two cases]The NIA case is much larger than the cases of Mumbai attacks and beyond a conspiracy as these people were ruining other places including National Defense College, etc. and perhaps there were big sports plans. Some of them have not been revealed. Therefore, this extradition gives more importance because we have never been questioned till Rana, such as we had done in relation to Headley, “said,” David Headman Koli, referring to a Pakistan -born American citizen, who went to the reconnaissance of civil goals. “

Mr. Behera said that until the Supreme Court merges these two cases and one does not transfer to a particular court, there will be two tests – in Delhi, the other in Mumbai.

“… I’m sure that he [Rana] Some things we do not know. And perhaps it will really reveal more. And I will not be surprised to see that more names are revealed. For example, we know David Coleman Headley’s handlers, but who is Rana’s handlers? Perhaps they are the same or they are different. So all these questions were during our investigation, but due to lack of access to this person, we could not answer them. [Rana]”The former NIA officer said.” Today, we are in a better position and this is actually a victory of diplomacy, concerted efforts of all agencies, government and various departments. ,

For a question about David Coleman Headley going away, Mr. Behera said that Indian investigators could question Headley that due to effective diplomacy and good relations with the US, and he did not go to Scott-free.

“Both of them were arrested by the FBI in 2009 … Thanks to good work, we could actually investigate David Coleman Headley and get some information. But it did not happen regarding Rana. So it is a part. But it is a part. But in the process, what happened, Hedley called for bargaining with the court concerned in the US.

“And depending on that plea, he will not be extradited in any country, India, or Denmark, or some other places, wherever there is a case. So whatever you want to do is to be done on American earth. It cannot be extradited according to the date.

“While Rana was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment in the Denmark case, and was acquitted in the Mumbai case … I am confident, I am personally very confident that Rana will tell something that will be very relevant, and perhaps more than what we know. So it is important,” Mr. Behera told NDTV.

After reaching Delhi, Rana was taken for a medical examination and produced before the court of Special NIA Judge Chander Jeet Singh, who listened to his custody.

Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narnder Mann represented NIA. Rana represented Rana by Piyush Sachdeva, a lawyer of the Delhi Legal Services Authority.
