The National Investigation Agency has said that accused Tavavur Rana has planned several other plots similar to 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks to target many Indian cities.
“His (Rana) is considered necessary for long -term detention to facilitate a comprehensive inquiry in custody, which aims to highlight the deep layers of the conspiracy.
Rana was brought to court in an horse -bearing, including a jail van, an armored swat vehicle and an ambulance.
Before Rana was brought to the Patiala House Court Complex, the Delhi Police removed the media and the members of the public from his premises citing security concerns.
Police officials said, “No one will be allowed to enter”.
A Delhi court recently obtained a test record of Mumbai attacks ahead of Rana’s extradition from America, a source said.
The NIA said that as part of the criminal conspiracy, accused No. 1, David Coleman Headley had discussed the entire operation with Rana before visiting India.
Estimating the possible challenges, Headley sent an email to Rana giving details of his belongings and assets, the NIA told the court, and Headley also informed Rana about the participation of Pakistani citizens Ilas Kashmiri and Abdur Rahman, who is also accused in the case.
The NIA submitted submissions to Special Judge Chander Jit Singh late on Thursday night, who sent Rana to 18-day NIA custody.
In his order, the judge directed the NIA to take Rana’s medical examination every 24 hours, and allow him to meet his lawyer every alternative day.
The judge allowed Rana to use only one “soft-tip pen” and meet his lawyer in the presence of NIA officials, which would be out of a audible distance.
During the arguments, the NIA stated that Rana’s custody needed to carry out the full scope of the conspiracy simultaneously, and presented that they needed to move to various places to resume the events that took place 17 years ago.
The agency said that it needs to investigate Rana’s link with other terrorists and the accused in the case.
The NIA told the court, “There is a need for detailed investigation. They face a lot of evidence. Their statements will give rise to additional discoveries.”
Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narnder Mann represented NIA.
To carry out important evidence and retrace events together 17 years ago, officers can take Rana to prominent places, allowing him to re -create the crime site and achieve deep insight into large terror networks in the play.
NIA Digs, an IG and five DCPs of Delhi Police were present in the court premises during their production.
Rana will remain in custody NIA for 18 days, during which the agency planned to question in detail “to highlight the full conspiracy behind the deadly 2008 attacks”, in which 166 persons were killed and over 238 continuous wounds were seen.
The 64-year-old Pakistani-original Canadian businessman was produced before Special NIA Judge Chander Jit Singh.
