Police said a 16 -year -old medical aspirant hanged himself in his hostel room in Kota with a sealing fan, which is exactly 20 days after joining a coaching center here to prepare for NEET.

It is a 13th case of suspected suicide by a coaching student in the coaching hub of the country since January and the third in April alone.

Police said Tamim Iqbal, a native of Katiyar in Bihar, was found hanging from a roof fan in his hostel room in Talwadi area on Monday evening.

No suicide note was recovered from the room and the reason behind the extreme step by the boy has not yet been ascertained, Jawahar Nagar Circle Inspector Inspector Ramlaxman said.

He said that the hostel caretaker informed the police that the boy did not open the door on Monday night, despite repeated knocks.

He said that the police team opened the door and hung the minor boy with a sealing fan.

Initial investigation revealed that Iqbal was a Class 11 student and had come to Kota 20 days ago. The official said that he also enrolled at a coaching institute to prepare for NEET.

The uncle of the boy living in Delhi reached Kota on Tuesday morning after knowing about the tragic incident and the body was handed over after the post -mortem, said that further investigation was going on.

Seventeen coaching students died of suicide in Kota in 2024. In 2023, the number remained at 26.
