Police said on Sunday that a group of people vandalized a local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Thane district of Maharashtra and attacked a person.

An official said the attack took place on Saturday night in the office of BJP corporator Raju Mahadik in Ambernath (East) area.

The official said that a group of 10 to 12 people, allegedly, under the leadership of Ashutosh Karle alias Dakya (23) and Gani Rafiq Sheikh (25), forcibly entered the office around 10.40 pm on swords.

He allegedly vandalized the campus and attacked Krishna Gupta (22), who works in the office, said, saying that the attack was captured by CCTV cameras.

Based on the complaint of Mr. Gupta, a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Indian Joint Code, and the attackers have been identified, said Ramesh Patil, senior inspector of Shivajinagar police station.

He said, “The purpose behind the attack seems to be a long personal dispute between the BJP leader and the accused,” he said.

He said that an inquiry is going on, and the teams have been formed to arrest the accused on the run.
