The historic 179 year old university considens closure due to lack of budget

Limuston University, a Christian University in Gaffyna, South Carolina, said on 16 April 2025, that it is facing strict financial problems that would force it to prevent classes offering in its premises. The university, established as the first women’s college in South Carolina in 1845, requires immediate injection of $ 6 million in funds to continue teaching in its campus beyond the current semester. Without this funding, the trustee board will be forced to go online or consider the institution completely shut down. A final assessment is scheduled for 22 April 2025.

The university has taken the initiative “Next 175” money raising campaignDemanding $ 20 million raising to stabilize finance and provide long -term stability. Potential closed will be affected close to about 1,000 students and 300 faculty members, which will greatly affect the local economy and the community.

“Limestone is committed to our students, and we will work directly with current students to help them identify the best path to successfully complete their educational journey,” Randel Richardson saidChairman of Limuston University Board of Trustees. “We are reaching students separately with information about the options to continue our education.”

While the full -closed is a risk, the institution is considering a landscape that all individuals will discontinue educational operations and all other activities, including athletics, in gaffy. Completely online models will effectively eliminate traditional college campus experiences.

Richardson said, “The board’s priority is to preserve the mission of education and service in our campus besides online. But without this financial lifeline, we will have no choice but to transfer all tasks online, which means closing our physical complex.” The 179 -year -old institution aims to maintain online degree programs. The online part of the institution has seen a strong growth and can support long -term stability.
