The minister says, “Excessiveness and obesity increases in children”, the minister says

New Delhi:

Expressing concern over childhood obesity, Union Minister Savitri Thakur said on Tuesday that overnutrition and obesity have become serious problems with children consuming too much oily food.

The Minister of State for Women and Child Development also said that the fortnight of the seventh position is an important step towards realizing the vision of a well-nurtured India and has called all the stakeholders to create a “health-centered environment” that ensures that a child does not sleep hungry and no mother is deprived of nutrition.

He said, “This is an important step in meeting our commitment for a ‘Suprat Bharat’, he said during his inaugural address in a two -week nutrition awareness campaign here.

Emphasizing behavior and habitual changes through community participation, Thakur said that childhood obesity has become increasingly serious due to children unhealthy snacks and increasing consumption of oily food.

He said, “Nutrition is no longer limited to the issue of underborching. Excessive nutrition and obesity have become serious problems,” he said.

“Children consume a lot of oily and non-nutrient food today, which not only increases their weight, but also goes to many diseases,” she said.

Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concerns on this issue, Thakur emphasized the need for collective response.

“We should create an environment where children eat healthy food and play regularly. Let’s all come together that no child sleeps hungry, no mother is left without nutrition, and every family has access to necessary health services,” he said. Masthakur said that more than 100 crore awareness activities have been organized since the launch of the Poson campaign in 2018.

He urged officials and courtyards of the states and courtyards across the UTS to engage at the ground level through home trips and referral services.

“During this fortnight, we will go from village to village, spread awareness, and where needed, we will ensure that people follow the criteria set in Poson Tracker,” the minister said.

The nutrition awareness campaign, which is part of the Center’s major Pokhna campaign, will focus on four major topics this year: the first 1,000 days of life, the citizen of Pokhn Tracker, the citizen module of Pokhn Tracker, the community-based management (CMAM) of malnutrition (CMAM), and promoting a healthy lifestyle to dispose of childhood.

The minister was addressing 18 partners ministries, state women’s and child development departments and nationwide officials of Anganwadi workers.

As part of this year’s efforts, Union WCD Minister Anaprana Devi is also scheduled to visit Arunachal Pradesh in the first week of fortnight to review the on-ground initiative to improve nutrition and welfare services.

Pokhn Pakhwada 2025, formed with Mission Shasham Anganwadi and Pohan 2.0, aims to strengthen outreach and results by including many ministries including health, education, rural development and water power in public endoling activities.
