Palghar:
An official said on Thursday that a marriage invitation card has helped the police to resolve a robbery case in Palghar district of Maharashtra, in which the victim’s brother has been found involved in the crime.
The incident took place on 28 March near the village of Vavar in Jauhar, he said.
District Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil said that the victim, Boru Khandu Binnar (30), who is a resident of Khodala in Mokhada taluka, was traveling in a pickup van, when three unidentified persons showed him a flag below on the pretext that his motorcycle broke, District Superintendent of Police Balsaheb Patil.
Believing his petition for help, the man asked his van driver to stop to help him.
The robbers then threw chili powder into the eyes of the man and van driver and took 6,85,500 rupees in cash placed behind the driver’s seat. The official said that he had threatened the person before he escaped.
The Johar police later registered a case against the then unidentified criminal under sections 309 (4) (dacoity) and 3 (5) (general intention) of the Indian Judge.
During the investigation at the crime site, the police found a normal piece of chilli powder marks and evidence – an invitation card in which the chilli powder was wrapped, the official said.
The police tracked a person whose name was mentioned on the invitation, and found him to join the robbery. Later, three other criminals were also arrested, he said, all four were added and taken into custody in the last few days.
According to the official, among the four persons arrested, the victim’s brother Dattu Khandu Binnar (34) allegedly planned the robbery.
The other three arrested persons have been identified as Kiran Anant Lamte (23), a resident of Mokhada, named marriage invitation cards, Parmeshwar Kamalakar Jole (24) and Dada Bajirao Pehre (24), both told Nashik.
The officer said that the police recovered the entire theft cash from the arrested persons.
