Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inspected community bunkers in Tangdh and visited the shelling-hit areas in Kupwara, which caused widespread damage due to cross-border firing. During on-ground inspection on Tuesday (May 13), Mr. Abdullah went through community bunkers, saw destruction, talked to local people and heard stories of survival, and ensured support in reconstruction.
It came as a normal situation, which returns to the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir after the increased tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahgam terror attack and operation vermilion.
Mr. Abdullah was seen walking inside the community bunker with the flashlight of his phone.
The bunkers are designed to protect people or objects from falling bombs or other attacks. NDTV ground report showed that community bunkers with a capacity of 10 people hosted 20-25 people during the India-Pakistan attack.
Local people have increased the requirement of individual bunkers so that more people can go into security in times of crisis. Mr. Abdullah, who supported the demand, said that new bunkers have not been constructed in years because there is no need.
Talking to the media, the government said that the government will prepare a plan to set up new bunkers for people living near the Line of Control (LOC) and border areas.
He wrote on X (East Twitter), “We will ensure the construction of such safe places for protecting and supporting our people living in border areas.”

Mr. Abdullah visited the sub-district hospital in Tangdhar village and met the doctors and employees who were firm due to the crisis.
“Hospitals in the border areas will be further strengthened and equipped to handle emergency situations in the future,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that when no life was lost in the Tangdha of Kupwara, the village saw the loss of public property including houses, shops and Madrasa.
Sharing pictures of “Heartbreaking” destruction from Tangdhar, Mr. Abullah said he looked at homes and vehicles with tireless shelling. He wrote on X, “Standing with the families affected in this hour of grief.

Mr. Abdullah said that the government will compensate people after the completion of the assessment of damage.
India launched Operation vermilion The night of the intervention of May 6 and 7, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, was killed, including 26 people, including a local and a Nepali citizens.
