Hyderabad:
Family sources said that Padma Shri Awardee ‘Vanjeevi’ Ramaiya died on Saturday in Khammam district of Telangana.
He said that there was a heart attack at his home in Redi Palli village.
He was 87 years old.
Daripalli Ramaiya, known as Green Crusaders in Khammam district, “Chettu (Tree) Ramaiya” or “Vanjeevi”, was to receive Padma Sri Award for 2017, to plant more than one crore saplings in the last several decades.
The Chief Minister, a Revantha Reddy, played the death of Shri Ramaiya and said that his death is an “irreparable loss” for the society.
The Chief Minister further said that Daripalli Ramaiya strongly admitted that the existence of mankind is impossible without nature and environment, the CMO said.
“Ramaiya began planting trees as a person and impressed the whole society,” Revanath Reddy said that Padma Shri Awardee inspired the youth by dedicating the whole life to environmental protection.
The Chief Minister expressed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for State Minister Candi Sanjay Kumar, BRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao and many other leaders mourned the death of Shri Ramaiya.
In his message, Kishan Reddy said that Shri Ramaiya planted more than one crore saplings during his lifetime and was at the forefront of protecting and moving forward of nature and environment.
Paying tribute to the departed soul, Sanjay Kumar said that the death of Green Crusaders, who was awarded the Padma Shri, is a disadvantage for Telangana and nature.
KCR said that Shri Ramaiya’s life stands as a role model for generations coming under the protection of the environment.
