New Delhi:
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and expressed condolences on the loss of life in a terrorist attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition, Defense Secretary Hegseth reiterated India’s “strong support” to the United States.
In a post on X, Hegseth said, “Today, I talked with Indian Defense Minister Singh @rajnathsingh to express my deep condolences to the loss of life in the heinous terrorist attack last week. I offered my strong support. We stand with India and its great people.”
These 26 people were killed in the increasing tension with Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani army is continuing its construction along the borders with India and deployed air defense and artillery units at further places.
Defense sources said on Wednesday that the director General of India and Pakistan’s military operations spoke on the hotline on Tuesday. He said that India warned Pakistan against Pakistan’s violations along with the Line of Control (LOC) and the international border by the Pakistan Army.
The Indian Army has effectively responded to the Pakistan Army’s unsafe small arms in the Line of Control (LOC). Officials said the army responded to a violation of ceasefire on April 27-28 and in areas with Kupwara and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir (JK), officials said.
On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a telephonic conversation with American counterpart Marco Rubio and recently discussed the terrorist attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shri Jaishankar said that the criminals, backers and planners of the attack should be brought to justice.
Mr. Jaishankar posted on X, “Yesterday discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with @Secrubio. Its criminals, backers and planners should be brought for justice.”
