Mumbai:
An official said on Tuesday that a 19 -year -old private sector employee of Navi Mumbai and her lover allegedly hit a cab driver with a hammer and demanded him to blackmail with a video and demand sexual favor.
The accused couple was arrested on 6 April after surrendering to the police in Sangamar in Ahilya Nagar district, after which Navi Mumbai Police was informed about the murder.
Surendra Pandey (43) was a cab driver for the accused woman, Riya Sarkan Singh.
Originally from Punjab, Riya recently moved to Ulve in Navi Mumbai. The official said that she had got a job in a private firm, where she met Vishal Shinde (21).
Pandey offered Riya Awas as she was looking for a place to live. On 2 April, Shinde visited Riya, and during his time together, Pandey secretly recorded a video of the doubles. He then started blackmailing Riya and demanded a sexual favor, the official said.
Riya admitted about blackmail in Shinde, causing a conflict. Police said that during this time, both of them allegedly killed Pandey with a hammer on the head.
After the murder, the pair ran the scene in a cab and moved towards Pune, where they were involved in a minor accident.
He traveled to Shinde’s hometown Sangamar, where he informed his parents about the crime. Shinde’s parents persuaded him to surrender to the police, the officer said.
Both surrendered at the Sanghagu police station, after which the local police alerted the Navi Mumbai Police. On visiting Pandey’s residence, the police discovered his disintegrated body.
Both the accused were arrested and brought to Navi Mumbai. The official said that they are currently in police custody till 15 April, and further investigation is going on.
