Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences on the death of Pope Francis.
An official statement by the Chief Minister’s office said, “The death of Pope Francis, the supreme spiritual leader of the Catholic Christian community, is deeply saddened and an irreparable loss to the spiritual world.”
“In this hour of grief, my condolences are with the global Catholic community. His purity Pope Francis will always be remembered for his compassion, humility, and great sense of service. I pray to the Almighty to give eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to his sad followers to tolerate this immense grief.
Meanwhile, the Government of India declared a three -day state mourning as an honor after Pope Francis’s death on Monday of Pope Francis, according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Mourning will be celebrated on 22 and 23 April across the country and again on the funeral of the Pope.
Pope Francis (88) died on Monday in his residence, Casa Santa Marta, Vatican.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said: “Three -day mourning as a mark of respect on the death of its purity Pope Francis, the highest Pontif of the sacred scene.”
“Purity Pope Francis, The Holi C’s highest Pontif, died today on 21 April 2025. As a mark of honor, the three -day state mourning will be seen in the whole of India, the following ways: two days of state mourning on Tuesday, 22 April, 2025 and Wednesday, 23 April, 2025.
According to the MHA, during the period of mourning of the state, the national flag will be flown on all the buildings across India where the national flag is regularly flown, and there will be no official entertainment.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the Pope’s death. He said that Pope Francis’s “affection for the people of India will always be nurtured.”
“Halidity Pope Francis is deeply pained by the passage of Pope Francis. In this hour of sorrow and memory, my heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community. Pope Francis will always be remembered by millions of people around the world as compassion, humility and spiritual courage. A sense of hope,” PM Modi said on X.
The Prime Minister said, “I remember my meetings with him and was very inspired by his commitment to inclusive and all development. His affection will always be nurtured for the people of India. Will his soul get eternal peace in the embrace of God,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi met Pope Francis during the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also condoled the Pope’s death and remembered him as a kind leader who worked to create a better world.
Jaishankar wrote on X, “Sadly saddened by the demise of Pope Francis,” Jaishankar wrote on X.
He also shared a picture of a group with the Pope and said, “His compassion and commitment to the creation of a better world defined his sinner. His soul can rest in peace.”
Pope Francis was born in George Mario Bergoglio’s Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became a Catholic priest in 1969. Pope Benedict XVI resigned on February 28, 2013, a Pope Conclave chose Cardinal Bergoglio as its successor on 13 March 2013, he chose Francis name in honor of St. Francis of Asi.
After his death, the Vatican has announced a nine -day mourning period called an old Roman tradition “Novandiyal”. After this period, cardinals will be found in a conclave to choose the next pope.
